Competitive Program

Ages 8 - 18

At Kristy’s Dance Fusion, we pride ourselves in leading our competitive dancers based on the principles of strong technique and good sportsmanship. We participate in both out of town and in town competitions which allows our team to grow and bond together. Competitions are a season favourite for our competitive dancers and families alike!

Please scroll through our available genres and classes. Placement in classes is at the discretion of the instructors, as we want to ensure each dancer is in the best environment for their dance education.

Ballet

This art form is the foundation to all styles of dance and is a very beneficial class for all dancers. Ballet will teach your child coordination, precision, and grace in a respectful and traditional class environment. Our ballet instructors work to develop proper and safe technique and body alignment while encouraging each student to find the creativity and story telling in their movements. Ballet classes will provide your child with a strong foundation to compliment the rest of their classes. As the foundation of all styles we offer, ballet is mandatory for our competitive dancers. Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes are available for dancers who are ready to study en pointe.

The Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) syllabus is taught in class with the option for some students to enter the R.A.D. exam process.

Jazz

Our jazz classes combine technique and style. An emphasis will be placed on proper alignment during steps; body conditioning, flexibility, and quick thinking are all thrown into the mix. Steps are combined in traveling combinations across the room and centre floor.

We teach the ADAPT syllabus for jazz; exams are available in December for the students that are ready for the challenge.

Tap

This fun dance style focuses on elements of rhythm and musicality. It’s the only dance style where your feet can make their own music! Younger dancers love to discover the many sounds they can make, while our older dancers become masters of complicated rhythms and techniques.

We teach the ADAPT syllabus for tap; exams are available in December for the students that are ready for the challenge.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a popular form of dance that includes many sub genres such as: locking, popping, house, breakdancing, party dancing, old school, tutting, animation etc. The technique for different styles of Hip Hop will be taught and emphasis will be placed on musicality and groove. Steps will be put together in combinations that the dancers add on to each week. Style will develop as the dancers feel free to express themselves. The steps are set to popular music (clean versions) that they listen to everyday!

Lyrical

Lyrical is a beautiful style of dance that requires students to have previous training in ballet and jazz. Strong emotions of happiness, sadness, anger or hurt are portrayed. The movement becomes the story and portrays the lyrics of the music. Lyrical requires the dancer to express themselves through their body. Young dancers aspire to take their turn in Lyrical. Lovely to watch and rewarding to perform.

Our lyrical program runs December to May and registration for classes will happen at the end of November.

Contemporary

Contemporary is a very current style of dance utilizing ballet and jazz techniques combined with modern movements. Developed in the mid-twentieth century, it has since become one of the world’s most popular and enjoyable performance styles. Dancers must have a strong background in technical dance such as ballet and jazz as contemporary borrows movements from these formal genres. Modern elements are added to contemporary choreography such as torso contractions, floor work, and improvisation.

Contemporary is an excellent addition to a dancer’s repertoire once they’ve developed good strong technical dance aspects.

AcroDance

Acro Dance is a genre of dance which incorporates elements of gymnastics, jazz, tumbling and basic contortion. Students learn acrobatic tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest rolls, elbow stands, walkovers and aerials. Trick movements are executed slowly to emphasize body lines, a graceful motion and picturesque extension.

Acro Dance offers more depth and variety to choreography and creates a much more versatile dancer. To master an acro trick students must develop a good foundation of strength and flexibility, thus emphasis is placed on extensive conditioning involving stretch and strength training.

Our Acro Dance classes are for training and skill building; recital routines are not included in the class. Extra opportunities may be offered for competitive or non-competitive performing opportunities based on interest. Please let us know if this is something you would like to take on as an extra!

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)

This class is for the dancer wishing to increase their technical skills that will benefit them not only in ballet, but also in all other technique based genres. Taught by our PBT certified teachers Miss Christina and Miss Halie, this class is designed to strengthen and mobilize our dancers. Utilizing exercise balls and eventually resistance bands, dancers are taught how to isolate muscle groups, improve turn out, and develop helpful skills to succeed in dance. This is a training class only with no recital routine.
